Mystery object

I was wondering if you fine people could help me identify an old object. We picked it up at an estate sale the other day.

It's a small pot, with three small legs. There is an engraving of a horse on the lid. Our best guesses were "fondue pot", but there are no signs of flames on the bottom. It might be an ornate ash tray, with a lid designed to keep the fumes inside. There are what appear to be a few burn marks inside. We googled quite a bit but could find nothing that looked quite like this.

Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

Looks like a bed warmer.
If you're not familiar with warming pans - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warming_pan
I second ginnygoblin in saying it's (almost) certainly bed-warmer.

A very cool find!
I'd also say it could be a silent butler, but bed warmer is more likely.
Granted I don't know a thing about either object, but I think silent butler is right on. The bed warmers google shows me tend to have longer handles. And the silent butlers just look a lot more similar to what I have. Thanks!
Neat find! I wouldn't really think that bedwarmers would have feet on them; they would get caught on the sheets when you movie it around. My first thought was a popcorn popper! I don't think that's right though.
I believe it's called a chafing dish. It was meant to sit over a warming flame. Check out this site. The legs are a little short, so it may only be in the style of a chafing dish, used purely for decorative purpose. That's my best guess, though.

It's a butler. My mom use to have one of those. It went in the estate auction I had. It is for cigaret butts
